In the city of amsterdam, Stefan Sagmeister was exploring design for the urban landscape and looking at how it fulfills. From informal interventions to happenings which are sometimes illegal, experimentadesign 2008 proposes that the city’s public space becomes a place in which architects and designers develop the urban area into a playground which initiates social interaction amongst city dwellers.

The central feature of the club is the dance floor designed by Studio Roosegaarde, with basic concept by TU Delft Industrieel Ontwerpen. Composed of modules made from recycled PVC and glass, the dance floor is a complex moveable surface that converts the kinetic energy from dancers into electricity, which is then used to power the floor lighting. Creating a direct relationship between the dancer and his or her actions, a light metre indicates the amount of energy generated and the LED lighting in the floor becomes more green the more you dance. ‘In this way, people become more aware of their actions and become active in the design.

Beijing-based architects MAD have designed a conceptual, star-shaped, mobile Chinatown.

The architects describe the project as “MAD’s response to the redundant and increasingly out-of-date nature of the contemporary Chinatown”.
Moving around the world, the mobile town would produce all it’s own energy and recycle all its own waste, requiring no resources from its host city.
The town would be home to 15,000 people and include health resorts, sports facilities, drinking-water lakes and a digital cemetery.
The project will be presented at the Venice Architecture Biennale as part of the exhibition ‘Uneternal City’ curated by Aaron Betsky, which opens this week.
