For the Roland Garros tournament 2009, 5.5 designers have reinterpreted tennis equipment in the collection ‘3 sets’. The tubes of balls are transformed into decanter and glasses ‘ace’. The traditional wooden rackets take the form of stools which are break corded and a score board has been created to be used within the home. The collection seems fitting for tennis fans.

It seems there’s no end to Stella McCartney’s creativity. An animal lover, Stella has often used the silhouette of a horse in her textiles and fashion design. Stella McCartney was inspired to create Lucky Spot as a response to the beauty of Belsay Castle with it’s medieval architecture and mystical quarry garden. According to Belsay Castle officials, “she wanted to create something magical, romantic and visually stunning. She designed a jewelled curtain of thousands of Swarovski crystals that hung in the shape of a horse from the ceiling in the Castle’s Great Hall.”

This year, MGX made a significant contribution to design through a collaboration with the car manufacturer Renault. The Ondelios was inspired by nature and the way it solves problems with elegance. This vision can be seen clearly in the car’s ethereal design, interior layout and original hybrid powertrain. In addition to providing inspiration, MGX techniques were used to produce a number of specific elements for the car, including the dashboard and roof, which emphasize the vehicle’s airy look and feel and in the case of the latter, bathes the interior in natural light.
“Most cars are designed to express power, speed or the amount of money the driver has on his bank account. Our concept vehicle has a maximum speed of 130 km/h, can carry 6 passengers and their luggage, and burns only 4 litres of fuel per 100 km thanks to our hybrid technology and aerodynamic efficiency… Our design has been led by efficiency, simplicity, fluidity, and our wish to create new forms for a new breed of car… We think that a car is like a downsized home that can move. It’s micro architecture… We imagine that Ondelios’s drivers own .MGX products and will want to bring brands such as MGX into their ‘mobile lounges’”, says Stephane Janin, Director, Concept Cars, Renault.

This is the office of the Selgas Cano architects in Madrid, I guess it’s not downtown Madrid. They definitely have a different perspective on their surroundings.
