The bold reconstruction by the ever-youthful Jean Paul Gauthier was not without his signature touches, the chic maritime stripes and bondage accents adorned the cuffs of 501 jeans, and exposed selvage run through the side seams of jeans and shorts – in equally pure and uncompromisingly rigid denim. Epitomizing the America Dream since 1973, Levi’s itself is an effortlessly cool and edgy brand.  Fused with Gauthier’s genius sense of innovation, and impeccable couture craftsmanship, the streetwear collection is a refreshing mixture of chic masculinity with utter authenticity and edge. Vincent Callebaut visionary behind the Lilypad has created a whale-shaped floating garden designed to drift through the world’s rivers while purifying their waters. The Physalia is a self-sufficient ecosystem that generates all the power it needs from the sun and works to reduce water pollution. Physalia was inspired by the Physalia Physalis jellyfish, whose name translates roughly to “Water Bubble”. This water bubble is meant to navigate the major rivers of Europe, Northern Africa and the Middle East, traveling along the Danube and Volga, between the Rhine and Guadalquivir, and through the Euphrate and the Tiger. Completely self sufficient and incredible looking, the Physalias would turn heads wherever it floated.

Swiss designer Philppe Cramer had released a new series of jewelry designs inspired by sea creatures and the natural growth patterns of crystals. The “Sea Beauty” series uses creatures and other organic structure found in the sea as a source of inspiration. Jellyfish, corals and octopus form the main subjects, each executed in gold and silver finishes. In the “Virtual Crystal” collection, Cramer used computer generated algorithms to simulate the natural growth of crystals. Using these forms he developed a series of rings that pay homage to the crystalline formations found in the Alps.

An observation tower for the city of Seongnam in Korea design by Korean architect Changki Yun. The Daewon Park Observatory was an entry for a competition but did not win. The dream of flight is blissful. Just the thought of floating in the sky brings enough motivation to attempt to achieve the dream. However this dream is now a reality.

At a concert in London last week rock band Ok Go performed with guitars customised by London designer Moritz Waldemeyer featuring LEDs and lasers. Originally created as part of a design performance for fashion brand Fendi at Design Miami in December, the instruments use lasers to create imagery on a video screen in response to the music. Bringing together the creative worlds of industrial design, rock music, installation art and haute fashion, Waldemeyer has customized a selection of Gibson guitars, outfitting each instrument with laser lights, interactive LEDs and off-cut FENDI materials. When the guitars are played, the lasers engage a video wall and leave traces that illustrate the music in real time.
